My 2010 in videos

Reflecting on my 2010, here are my top 10 videos that reflected my year.

10. DJ Earworm - United State of Pop 2010 (Don't Stop the Pop) - Mashup of Top 25 Billboard Hits

This is a mashup of the top songs for 2010.  I can't say I am really a 'pop' kind of person, but the wife takes over the radio on the drive into work everyday.  This reminds me of all the music I had to deal with over the year.

9. Queen - I Want to Break Free

This is for people I had to deal with that I didnt want to!  Grr!! It has nothing to do with my desire to wear womens clothing :-)

8. It's Peanut Butter Jelly Time

Ahhh, soo many fond memories.

7. Starcraft 2

What fun I had with Starcraft2.  Bored online, late at night, learning about Planetary Fortress rush.  This example wasn't how I did it, but how this guy/girl did it was very special. Great game, great times!

6. Homes Under the Hammer

Watched this plenty of times and was always reminiscing about being in London whenever watching it, but with our 'renovation' projects, this sort of show and thoughts was often watched and spoken about.

5. Bad Habits

Some people have bad habits and i've dealt with a lot this year.  This songie well states them.

4. Quake

This is what me and a few buds do weekly.  Quake!  Not quite like this video, but still pretty sweet.

3. Letters & Numbers

Ohh yes, a show for nerds. FYI - Lily, you're a babe ;-)

2. Queen - We Are The Champions

Yeah, another Queen song, but this song was playing when we found out what gender our baby is going to be.  Kinda something that will stick in my mind, until I forget it :-)

and the number one video in the life of Tork is

1. Lion King - The Circle of Life

Every now and then throughout the year, I'd skreetch out a crappy version of the first few lyrics around the house of this song, but that's not why this is number one.  It is because my wife and I are expecting our firstborn middle next year.  When it pops out, whatever gender it is, I am finding a rock and reliving this scene from the movie.   ..and we can't wait :-)

Enjoy!

Wii Play - Review

This is a review for the game Wii Play, available on the Wii console.

In my opinion, this game is a must have for any Wii owner's collection. Mine came with a second Wii controller.  These n00bs out there buying controllers that don't come with a game.  Pfft!  Pfft, I say to them!

This is a great game for all ages.  An awesome game for yourself or a small gathering.  You can play solo or with a friend.

There are several different games you can play.  There's Table Tennis, Cow Racing, Fishing, 9-ball, a Duck Hunt-like shooting game and an Awesome Tank game.

Ok, each game may not get solid gaming time out of it, it's great for a bit of fun at a party.  But, if you want a serious challenge on the Wii, Tanks!  This game in Wii Play is fantastic.  I've wasted a fair bit of time on it hehehe.

So if you have a Wii, make sure you grab this game.  If you already have this game, I just broke my Tanks! record and got 69.  I bet your fat-gamer's backside you can't beat my score :-)   Ahh.. 69, What a great number, I'm sure I can do better though!

John Safran vs Father Bob

Readers, I've been bothered by Twitter for the past few weeks.

As mentioned by Father Bob on several occasions on their joint radio venture via Triple J's Sunday Night Safran, the Padre is not happy that John has more followers than he does.  This also has concerned me..

..so i'm starting *insert drumroll here* A BLOG!!
I think Father Bob should have more followers than John Safran and I am aiming to make this so.  Safran must be cheating to get more followers.  Why wouldn't Father Bob have more followers with fantastic tweets such as this:

FatherBob

Rubber band pistol confiscated from algebra class 'cos it was a weapon of math disruption.

Father Bob has shown great commitment to his followers.  He has been trying noticeably hard over the past few tweets.  He deserves my help for more followers and he deserves your help too!

Father Bob, at age 76, needs to beat John Safran at age 38.

Make the decision yourself whom you should be following, one or the other!

I will declare John as not cheating twitter by whomever has the most followers by 1st of February 2011.

Tally
-23rd Dec 2010: John is leading with 5477 more followers
-3rd Jan 2011: Father Bob gains 209 more followers! But is behind by 5268
-4th Jan 2011: Father Bob gains 32 more followers! But is behind by 5236
-8th Jan 2011: Father Bob gains 80 more followers! But is behind by 5156

Join me, and follow Father Bob on twitter by clicking HERE!  Ignore John Safran, lets win one for the oldies!! :-)

LOL vs Laughter

To the internet,

To everyone that uses the internet.  Anyone that has a Facebook account.  Anyone that uses Twitter.  Anyone whom has ever, or is ever likely to post something on the internet.  I have an important message that must be spread.

STOP USING THE ABBREVIATION "LOL"!!!

It massively sh*ts me.

As per wikipedia (referenced here), lol is the abbreviation for "Laugh Out Loud", as we all are more than likely familiar with.  it is internet slang.  It is an abbreviation to save typing and I hate it with a passion.

You will never see me type lol ever (obvious exclusion is this blog post, of course).  It has taken over our world and removed laughter from where it should be.

I've had teens/tweens say to me, to my face, "LOL" instead of actually laughing.  This is the saddest thing next to Warwick Capper trying to sing. hehehehe.
Do you see what I did there?  Instead of typing lol, I did a "hehehehehehe".  This is simply "h" and "e" together.  I term this as an actual laugh.  If you want to add a little oomf you can always extend the e's as such:

"heeheehee"

For substitutes for the also annoying ROFL and ROFLMAO, simply replace the e's with an a, like so:

"hahahahahaha"

If you want to add even more power behind your laugh, you can captialise the letters to get it a bit more strength.  You can even be a bit inventive like this:

"haheheheeehheahahaHAHEHAahahaeHEHE"

This shows uncontrollable laughter where the letters arent uniformed and i've swapped and changed the e's and a's intermittenly.

So there you have it, lol is boring, lol is sad.  It's not Laugh Out Loud, its "Lord! oh, Lame!".

Please, laugh properly in your Facebook status.  Laugh properly in you Twitter. Don't let laughter turn into lol!  One day, your kids or your kids, kids will respond to your jokes as "lol".   Do you want to live in that world? I surely dont!!  HEHEHEHE. (see how fantastic it looks? ;-)

ps. if anyone dares posts a comment of "lol"  ..i swear.. im gonna lose it :-)

Pregnancy - Should we tell everyone what the gender of our baby is?

Hiya,

So, as you may or may not know, my wife and I are expecting our first child soon.

We've found out what the gender is, but we cannot decide whether we should be telling everyone or not!

I like the idea of suspense and surprise!  Obviously not for ourselves, because we just had to know the gender.  I just don't think we can last the full distance without telling anybody!!  It's already driving me crazy!!  ARGH!!

Anyway, here is where I can see the downsides of telling people.

  1. People would help with baby names when we don't want the influence
  2. People could tell other friends and family that don't yet want to know it's gender
  3. It will ruin my fun of keeping the suspense when other people are tearing their hair out to know the sex of the baby!

Hmm.. Do I really want to kill the imagination of everyone's guessing and suspense by announcing the gender?  I can see the positives though, like:

  1. All the clothes and presents people buy us would be for the correct gender
  2. There would be no more careful tip-toeing during conversations of the baby
  3. Everyone would stop hassling us so much (hahaha!)

Well, I would really appreciate everyone's feedback that have been in similar situations.  What did you do?  How did it go?  Or, what do you think we should do even if you haven't been in our situation?

Should we spill or should we stay mum (and dad hehehehe)

RE: Foxtel - Why do I have you?

This is a response letter to the blog: Foxtel - Why do I have you?
This is to show you how to save money with Foxtel.

Dear Foxtel,

Thank you for your return email asking me to contact your offices by phone to discuss my concerns. It was good to catch up with you man, as it's been so long.

So, I spoke to you about my problem, how I am only watching you for a few hours a week and that was it.  We chatted about how I thought it was time for us to part ways.  Sorry for upsetting you like that, I really liked your idea though, of cutting my monthly bill from $60 per month to $40 per month.

I didn't understand it though when you said that you had to pass me through to disconnections.  Then there was this hold music or something on the line and your voice changed to a girls voice!  You then tried to sell me an IQ box at no cost until a years time. That's not what we were talking about, it was as if I was talking to a different person! You were trying to make me pay more money than save money!  Had me concerned.

Anyway, when I reminded you that you had just said that you were willing to charge me only $40 per month for the next 6 months instead of the usual $60, you remembered and agreed.  Oh, and thanks for not making me sign a new contract, that was a good idea too.

I am glad that we sorted out our differences and that we are friends again *insert virtual high five here*  YEAH!

Hopefully over the next 6 months you are nice to my wallet, because I've got that baby my wife and I are expecting to pay for, like we talked about.  If not, I'll let you know.

Anyway, thanks again!

- tork

PS. If it doesn't work out, perhaps that $6 per month for 6 months will be something we can talk about soon.  Cheers.

Foxtel - Why do I have you?

Dear Foxtel,

I was trying to figure out why I still have you. I mean, you cost an exuberant amount of dollars and I hardly watch you anymore!

I used to have all your packages man, the sports package is a must, but you cost me almost $90 a month!  These days, free to air channels are increasing in numbers!!  They offer me all the shows that I watch on Arena, Comedy Channel, FOX8, all for for free!

According to freeview.com.au, there are around 16 free to air channels on the digital network.  They are becoming fantastic.  I have watched you, my old friend Foxtel, perhaps once a week for 90 minutes over the past 2 months.  I have got rid of all my extra packages, but kept the sports package, so your only around $60 a month now.  During summer, all I am watching on Foxtel is the A-league.  Everything else is on free to air!

So Foxtel, mate.. you got to do something for me old pal.  I don't want to give you away because I love my A-League.  But that is all you are good for now!  When AFL starts up again, you'll serve a purpose (I hate adverts after a goal is scored on free to air, it drives me crazy), but until then, you are almost useless and I am paying a small fortune for something I am rarely using.

Why should I keep you? How are you going to improve?  The only things you seem to be changing are the increase of monthly cost and the increase of adverts.  You need to change, otherwise me might not see each other anymore, and that will be sad to lose a good old chum.  I doubt I am not the only person who is concerned of what you are offering.

Let me know what you have in mind, I'd be glad to hear it.  Hopefully we don't need to part ways.

Yours,

- tork

Call of Duty: Black Ops - Zombie Co-op

Just wanted to let you guys know what I'm currently playing.

As a PC gamer, I've had my fair share of the COD series.  They have been very good in my opinion, but they are starting to become a bit too movie like than game like.

Anyhoo, had my first go with my guild buddies at the Zombie Online Co-op that COD has.  Sounded very cool without opening it up.

*SPOLIER ALERT*

So you play as four dudes (FYI - JFK, Nixon, Fidel Castro, and another which I am sorry to the Americans, that I am unfamiliar with).  This is on the map called "FIVE"

Zombies crash through windows in the oval office, crash through doors.  They're coming in all over the place.  After about 5 waves, it starts to get too much.. ARGH!!! So you have to run away downwards into a nearby elevator to tackle more zombies.

Anyway, it is very hard.  With four of us, it is way way too hard.  I am tempted to search online for a walkthrough helping hand instruction, but instead I am venting on me new bloggy with my first gamer post.

I am stating this now; if you enjoy playing zombie games, dont play this one!!

COD, stick to fighting the Ruskies and the Germans etc.  You do that great.
I want to keep playing so very bad the Zombie bit, but, in my opinion, the area to run around in is just too tiny and you have to be very particular in everything you do in the game.  I cant be bothered, sorry.

Vent complete.  Perhaps in a few days/weeks I'll try to read a review/walkthrough and try again online with randoms.  But my buddies have just gone back to the game Killing Floor, or Killing Room (whatever its called), never to return!  Havent got that, so its off for tiddlywinks for me instead.

How to change your blogger background

How to change your blogger blogspot background

So, I've only had my blogspot for an hour, and I was already unhappy with my background.

I wanted to change it but couldn't figure out!  Well, here's how I did it, and it worked fine

1. Find a background photo that you wish to make as your background.  You can get this from anywhere (eg. Google Images) or you may already have it.

2. Upload the image to an image sharing site (eg. photobucket.com)

3. Follow image sharing site instructions to upload. Make sure you copy the URL of the picture

4. In Blogger, go to Design > Edit HTML

5. Be careful what you change from here.  In the text box, you need to find the section of coding which relates to the "body".  It will be nearby a section which will say "Content" that would look something along the lines as this:
/* Content
----------------------------------------------- */
body {
  font: $(body.font);
  color: $(body.text.color);
  background: $(body.background)
}
6. Where it says "background: $(body.background)"  replace those words as below where the word "LINK" is your URL to your picture:

/* Content
----------------------------------------------- */
body {
  font: $(body.font);
  color: $(body.text.color);
  background: url(LINK)
}

There you have it.  Hopefully I have explained myself correctly here.  I wanted to help other people as I had this problem.  If you're still confused, please let me know and I am glad to help.
